MediaTek announces Dimensity 7300 and 7300X

MediaTek announces Dimensity 7300 and 7300X, new 4nm chips for more affordable foldable phones.

While solutions like the Dimensity 9400 capture the most attention and position MediaTek in direct competition with Qualcomm for dominance of the high-end phone market, the Dimensity 7300 and 7300X alternatives could be even more significant. These chipsets give Chinese manufacturers the tools to compete with Samsung and other Western smartphone makers in the budget foldable phone segment.

With the launch of the Dimensity 7300 and 7300X, MediaTek reaches four newly announced chipsets in a single month, demonstrating an aggressive expansion strategy in the mobile processor market. Although some of these solutions are not yet available on the market, the first smartphones equipped with them are already being produced by Asian manufacturers and will not be long in coming.

In this context, the two chipsets are optimized specifically for slim and foldable flip-phones, focusing on providing optimal performance under the constraints of limited cooling and low battery capacity. Made using a 4nm manufacturing process, both chipsets include an octa-core CPU composed of 4 ARM Cortex-A78 cores clocked at 2.5 GHz and 4 ARM Cortex-A55 cores, optimized for energy efficiency in background tasks and maximizing autonomy in standby mode.

According to MediaTek, the manufacturing technology used for the Dimensity 7300 reduces power consumption by 25% in the A78 cores compared to its predecessor, the Dimensity 7050. It also includes an ARM Mali-G615 series GPU, benefiting from MediaTek HyperEngine technologies to maximize performance in Android games. MediaTek claims that these chipsets deliver 20% more frames per second in games than the previous generation solution with 20% lower power consumption.

Another highlight of the Dimensity 7300 is the Imagiq 950 image processor, which supports 12-bit HDR capture using up to 200MP image sensors on the main camera. The feature list is completed by MediaTek 5G UltraSave 3.0+ technology, which offers 5G download speeds of up to 3.27 Gb/s, tri-band Wi-Fi 6E connectivity and dual SIM 5G support with dual VoNR.
