Google Chrome for Android will introduce new features to manage open tabs more efficiently

On any browser, regardless of the platform used, an excessive number of open tabs can become a significant problem, as they consume a considerable amount of device memory. However, on Chrome for Android, this situation is even more common, as users are in the habit of opening new tabs without closing unnecessary ones.

Google already offers a simple solution to handle this issue: from the tab selection screen, by tapping on the three dots in the corner of the interface, users can choose the “Close all tabs” option to close all active tabs at once. However, according to a disclosure made by insider Leopeva64, Google is working on a new feature to improve organization in Chrome: automatic archiving of duplicate tabs.

More efficient solutions are on the way

According to a screenshot shared by insider Leopeva64, Chrome will introduce a feature that automatically archives tabs with the same URL (e.g., a webmail box opened in multiple tabs, login pages for various free Wi-Fi networks, or tracking the delivery of a package). The only active session that will remain open will be the most recently accessed one.

Users will also be able to automatically close tabs in Google Chrome for Android if they have not been used for more than 60 days. Either of these options will help optimize performance, reducing browser load and freeing RAM from unused tabs. We look forward to these features becoming available in the final version of the app, available to all users.
