The Files by Google app adds the functionality to create ZIP archives

Part of Google's collection of recommended apps, Files by Google gets even more useful with the addition of support for creating ZIP archives.

From now on, you can archive documents and photo collections directly from the application interface by sending the ZIP file as an attachment to messages composed with Gmail. In addition, the application allows you to extract the archived files without the need for third-party applications.

Google aims to make this file manager as versatile and convenient to use as possible. In this regard, the app now offers the option to customize the Collections list on the main screen, allowing you to pin your favorite folders. You can do this by pressing and holding on the desired folder and selecting the Add to collection option. You can also access the Compress command to archive multiple files and folders.

Pinned folders will appear every time you open the app, reducing the need to navigate through your phone's directory structure for quick access to photos or screenshots. The functionality identified in the latest beta version of the application is not active by default, requiring the adjustment of a configuration parameter. However, it is expected that this improvement will soon be integrated into the official version of the app, available on the Google Play Store.

Recently, Google has also made other significant improvements. For example, Files by Google now includes a search function assisted by the phone's AI co-processor (NPU), which sorts files by content. Thus, you can find files about a specific location, object or event starting from a simple description, even if the information is not present in the file name. This functionality uses local processing capabilities without sending data over the Internet or disclosing its content to Google.
