Apple is preparing an innovative rejoinder to its Galaxy Ultra lineup, planning to launch an iPad Pro 18.8 Fold, a foldable-screen tablet that promises to eliminate the visible crease that's characteristic of these devices.
Compared to the Galaxy Tab S10 Ultra, which offers a 14.6″ screen, the iPad Pro 18.8 Fold proposes a much more generous size. However, Apple seems to be tackling the size problem with a practical solution: a foldable screen that turns the massive tablet into a compact device of around 9″, suitable for everyday use.
According to renowned Bloomberg analyst Mark Gurman, Apple is already testing several prototypes of such a tablet, prioritizing a configuration that offers a refined design and enhanced functionality. One of the key features of the new device would be an almost imperceptible folding area, a detail that Apple engineers are working on intensively, wanting to overcome the aesthetic limitations of Samsung's foldables.
However, the iPad Pro 18.8 Fold 18.8 isn't expected any sooner than 2026-2027, likely to be released after the company's first foldable iPhone. As for that iPhone, it will reportedly feature a full-screen “Fold” design, intended to compete directly with Samsung's “full-size” foldables.
Apple's foldable tablet could integrate a customized version of iPadOS, enriched with elements of macOS. This suggests the device could function as a convertible laptop. The design could include either a detachable keyboard or use one half of the screen for typing while the other displays content.
Thus, the iPad Pro 18.8 Fold promises to not only redefine the standard for foldable tablets, but also set a new benchmark in the versatility of Apple devices.
